Mechanistic models test which features bacterial regulation and metabolism require
The dominant thread is mechanistic interpretation of quantitative models of bacterial regulation, in which models are examined for the features they require to reproduce or explain behavior. A mechanistic ODE model of E. coli translation initiation predicts a shift from complex-limited to ribosome-limited behavior across growth conditions. A model of the E. coli heat shock response integrates protein folding with σ32 regulation and identifies synergies and trade-offs among feedforward control, chaperone sequestration and degradation. What is new is the explicit use of such models to resolve which mechanistic components matter. A catabolic net-conversion study extends this framework to metabolic network stoichiometry, computing net conversions via elementary flux modes and introducing a thermodynamic analysis. The items differ in maturity, with one published study and two preprints, so the metabolic work represents an extension rather than a shared result.
