Spatial transport and reaction-diffusion models across neural and glial scales
The dominant thread is multiscale modeling of excitable and transport processes, with spatial structure carried most explicitly in the reaction-diffusion work. The pulsed-field preprint couples a Hodgkin-Huxley model to Smoluchowski electroporation dynamics and maps excitation versus electroporation regimes. A minimal-state kinetic model compares Kv channel activation currents across subfamilies, and a Wilson-Cowan neural mass tutorial with time delays applies numerical continuation and bifurcation analysis via DDE-BIFTOOL. The published benchmark compares MCell, STEPS, NeuroRD, and NEURON for calcium reaction-diffusion in simplified and EM-derived astroglial branchlet geometries. What is new is joint attention to geometry, multiscale coupling, and cross-tool or cross-regime comparison, rather than a shared mechanism. Excitability is explicit in only some of these studies, so the thread is methodological rather than unified.
