Conductance models link chloride and Ca2+ channel fluxes to neuronal excitability
The common thread is model-based analysis of ion flux within conductance-based frameworks. A computational study of cartwheel interneurons combines L-type Ca2+ and BK channels, reproducing bursting, regular and complex spiking, with bifurcation and timescale analysis explaining these regimes. A second computational study pairs a neuromodulation controller with calcium homeostasis in stomatogastric and dopaminergic neuron models, yielding robust yet modulable function. The new preprint extends the scale to chloride: its network model links chloride homeostasis to excitatory-inhibitory balance, with the channel-mediated influx fraction organizing seizure stages, including pre-ictal and tonic phases. The published work addresses single-cell excitability and its modulation, while the preprint addresses network-level chloride regulation. The set is heterogeneous in scope, so the dominant thread is ion flux treated through biophysical models rather than a shared system.
