Genome-wide variation and coalescent theory jointly infer selection and demography
The common thread is inference of evolutionary parameters from genome-wide sequence variation, anchored to explicit theoretical or baseline models. The preprint unifies IBD tract and runs-of-homozygosity theory within a coalescent framework, deriving closed-form length distributions that incorporate marker density, gene conversion and selection. A published admixture-graph method decomposes genetic drift into split times and effective population sizes. In the coppery titi monkey, a fitted distribution of fitness effects against a well-fit evolutionary baseline separates purifying, positive and balancing selection. Across 178 primate species, nucleotide diversity tracks recombination and Ne, and forward simulations indicate that linked selection shapes genomes pervasively. The distinctive feature across these items is analytically tractable coalescent length theory alongside fitted baselines in empirical scans, though the items differ in method and scale.
