New reference genomes and NLR gene prediction tools for eukaryotic assemblies
The dominant thread across these items is the construction and annotation of genomic resources for non-model eukaryotes, where reference quality constrains downstream analysis. HRPv2 provides an automated, reproducible method for full-length homology-based NB-LRR resistance gene prediction directly on genome assemblies, presented as an improved successor to HRP. The Tanacetum vulgare study reports a chromosome-scale HiFi and Iso-Seq assembly and annotation of an invasive North American Asteraceae species, providing a new reference genome. The Pinus edulis study builds a multi-tissue reference transcriptome, reports that tissue sampling yields complementary transcripts, and uses it to design an exon-capture probe set for genomic resource development. The items differ in organism, data type, and goal; they share a resource-building emphasis rather than a common method.
