Spatial transcriptomics registered to imaging maps brain zonation and vascularization
The dominant thread is coupling spatial molecular profiles to imaging-derived tissue frames. The Ciona preprint applies Visium with super-resolution maps to resolve zonation of the adult cerebral ganglion and its cellular composition. The LAMBADA atlas aligns light-sheet imaging with spatial transcriptomics to define three phases of postnatal mouse brain vascularization. Both use registration of molecular data to tissue architecture, but at different scales and with different ends: an adult neural complex in a sessile chordate in one case, and postnatal developmental organization in mammalian brain in the other. What is new is the use of this registration to define organ-scale and developmental organization. The third item, on sex effects across human cerebral cortex at cell type resolution, does not share the imaging frame and is adjacent rather than central to this thread.
