In silico reverse vaccinology targets conserved Mycobacterium epitopes across strains
The shared thread is inference from strain-level genomic and proteomic data to guide intervention design. Two preprints apply reverse vaccinology to Mycobacterium. One screens 159 TB strains for 27 conserved epitopes assembled into a peptide vaccine, supported only by docking and immune simulation. The other uses comparative proteomics of 11 M. bovis strains for reverse vaccinology, epitope-based vaccine design, and subtractive proteomic identification of drug targets. The third item, a DNA aptamer study on African swine fever virus with Ni2+ and Zn2+-binding motifs, is directed at diagnosis rather than vaccination and overlaps this thread only partially. What distinguishes the TB work is its use of conservation across diverse strain panels as the criterion for selecting candidates. The listed evidence is entirely computational.
