The dominant thread is open, reusable software that converts plant images into quantitative trait data. Three items apply machine or deep learning segmentation: pyRootHair extracts root hair traits from root microscope images at high throughput, ChronoRoot 2.0 uses nnUNet multi-class segmentation to track six plant structures over time in 2D phenotyping of Arabidopsis, and the almond workflow is an open Python pipeline for fruit morphology, color and morphometrics, reporting segmentation error below 1% across more than 25,000 kernels. GridScore NEXT is not an image-analysis tool; it addresses the upstream recording step with an offline, open-source app offering validation rules, barcodes and visualizations. What is new here is the pairing of openly available segmentation pipelines with structured field data capture, rather than any single method.
